Saxophonist and composer Ken Vandermark is the Artist in Residence for this year’s festival.

Vandermark’s four residency’s performances are as follows:

Friday August 31 at 5:00 p.m. at Roosevelt University’s Ganz Hall, 430 S. Michigan Ave., with a duet with fellow saxophonist Joe McPhee.

Saturday September 1 at 2:00 p.m on the Jazz and Heritage Stage in Grant Park  with Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen-Love

Saturday September 1 at 6:00 p.m at the Petrillo Bandshell with Vandermark’s Resonance Ensemble.

The ensemble created for this performance  includes Magnus Broo (trumpet), Steve Swell (trombone), Per-Ake Homlander (Tuba), Waclaw Zimpel (clarinet), Mikolaj Trzaska (reeds), Dave Rempis (Sax), Mark Tokar (bass), Devin Hoff (bass), Tim Daisy (Drums) and Michael Zerang (drums).

Sunday September 2 at 2:00 p.m. on the Jazz on Jackson Stage ion Grant Park with  Vandermark’s Made to Break Quartet.  The Ensamble includes  Tim Daisy, Devin Hoff, and Argentina’s Christof Kurzmann on reeds.

The final performance of the Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz series, Exquisitely For Ella: A Songbook Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald: Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra. Chicago vocalists Dee Alexander, Frieda Lee and Spider Saloff celebrate Ella’s 95th Birthday with original arrangements of music by Gershwin, Kern, Ellington, Arlen, Mercer, Berlin, Porter, and Jobim from the legendary Songbook recordings Ella made in the 1950s.
